Also known as Emmer, Khapli Wheat is an ancient form of wheat grain, where Khapli means 'crusty' and is generally grown in Maharashtra. According to food historians, this variety of wheat was first cultivated around 10,000 years ago as a part of the Neolithic Revolution in the Middle East. The outer layer of this wheat is light brown in colour and is very hard which enables the grain to survive for a longer period.

How to use Khapli Wheat?

You can use it as regular wheat and make rotis out of it. All you need to do is knead dough of 1 cup of khapli wheat flour, a pinch of salt, and water as required. Roll small portions of the dough into thin roti and cook on a hot tawa. Serve hot with dal and veggies of your choice.
