For outdoor cultivation:
The modern commercial Chia cultivation includes a typical sowing rate of 6 kilograms per hectare (5.4 lb/acre) and row spacing of 0.7–0.8 m (2.3–2.6 ft).
Duration:
The growing cycle of chia seeds will depend on the ecosystem. For example, If they are planted at an altitude of between 8 – 2,200 m, the growth cycle will be 100 – 150 days. If grown in altitudes of 900 – 1500m, then the growth cycle will be 120 -180 days.
Shelf Life:
The general consensus is that chia seeds have a shelf life of 4-5 years if stored in proper conditions. It is important to note that foods that contain chia seeds do not have the same shelf life as the uncooked seeds.

Prepare your bed of soil in the fall, and scatter seeds lightly over, just barely covering with soil. Water lightly each day until sprouts appear. Once established, your chia plants should self-sow each fall.
